Rafael Riqueni

Rafael Riqueni, from the Triana neighborhood of Seville, has been acclaimed as one of the greatest mast ers of fl amenco guitar. At the age of 12, he gave his fi rst performances as a soloist , and, at 14, he won the two main national guitar awards: the Ramón Montoya Prize in the VIII Córdoba Competition and fi rst prize in the VI National Competition of Jerez. Renowned for his dist inct ive st yle fi lled with novel harmonies and compositional concepts, he has appeared at Spain’s major fl amenco fest ivals and toured internationally. His brilliant recordings, which make up one of the most praised discographies in fl amenco, include the recent Latin Grammy-nominated Herencia presented in the last edition of Flamenco Fest ival NY.
