The great flamenco guitar master Pepe Habichuela is the patriarch of one of the most revered families in Gypsy flamenco, Los Habichuela. Born in Granada, a mecca of flamenco, he celebrates 60 years of flamenco guitar rooted in tradition and innovation. He is renowned for his historic collaborations with Enrique Morente, and as being a trailblazer of “nuevo flamenco.” He is joined by his son, guitarist Josemi Carmona, who is known for his work in the groundbreaking Ketama band; rising vocal star Kiki Morente, son of Enrique Morente; Javier Colina, one of the finest bass players in flamenco; the outstanding percussionist Bandolero; and dancer Alba Heredia, descendant of a legendary family, los Maya.
Appearing as special guests are two members of the celebrated O’Farrill family known for its remarkable influence on Afro-Cuban jazz: Grammy-winning pianist/composer Arturo O’Farrill, son of Chico O’Farrill and bandleader of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, and his son, trumpeter/composer Adam O’Farrill, who has been heralded as a new voice in Afro-Cuban jazz.
This show is complemented with the “LIVE@365: A GLOBAL MUSIC SERIES” conversation, in collaboration with the Foundation for Iberian Music.
