Robert Browning Associates in partnership with Flamenco Festival presents FLAMENCO GUITAR MAESTRO

One of Spain’s leading flamenco guitarists, Cordoba’s award-winning Jose Antonio Rodriguez will be making a rare New York appearance. A remarkable guitarist acclaimed for his powerful and soulful/evocative renditions of contemporary flamenco, he has composed music for orchestras and dance companies, participated in major projects with Paco de Lucia and Alejandro Sanz, and appeared in Carlos Saura’s Flamenco. As a teenager in 1981 and 1982, he won first prize for flamenco guitar at prestigious contests at Minas del al Union and Jerez de la Frontera. His recent CD, Adiós Muchachos, was declared by Spain’s El País newspaper to be the best flamenco album of 2016. For this program, he wll be accompanied by Patricio Cámara (percussion, vocal) and Paco Peña (bass).

José Antonio Rodríguez Muñoz (born 28 March 1964 in Córdoba, Spain) is a flamenco guitarist, composer and music professor from Córdoba, Spain. In the 1980s he won several national prizes, e.g. 1982 the Primer Premio para Guitarra Flamenca de Concierto at the XI Certamen Nacional de Guitarra Flamenca in Jerez de la Frontera and 1986 the Premio Ramón Montoya for solo guitar at the Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco.
