Ballet Nacional de España appears at City Center for the first time in nearly 20 years. The sheer size of the company and its hybrid form that draws from traditional amenco and classical ballet, make for a unique performance experience. Suite Sevilla, created by the company’s director, Antonio Najarro, infuses classic Spanish dance with bold trends in both music and choreography. Heightened by Rafael Riqueni’s score, the confluence of dancers and instruments evokes a primal longing for the traditions of Southern Spain.

All performances at New York City Center presented by New York City Center in partnership with Flamenco Festival and made possible by the Harkness Foundation for Dance and Barbara and David Zalaznick.

“A proud, wild and supremely vital expression of life” The Miami Herald

This institution is one of the main cultural ambassadors of Spain to the world, with an understanding of how to preserve the interest for all the styles of Spanish dance throughout its history. The National Ballet was founded by the Ministry of Culture in 1978, under the direction of Antonio Gades. Throughout the years, it has evolved to meet the times, interpreting highly diverse choreographies for flamenco, stylised Spanish dance or the Bolera School, among others.
