Pitingo
Born in Ayamonte (Huelva), the land of great artists, he learned cante since it ran in the family, as he belongs to two families with a great flamenco tradition such as the Carpio and Valencia families. At the mere age of thirteen, he went to live in Madrid, where he frequented the flamenco tablaos and peñas.
Pitingo’s musical influences are very diverse. From Camarón, Caracol and Niña de los Peines to Aretha Franklin or Stevie Wonder. As he himself admits, he is not only a flamenco enthusiast but also a fan of black music. Pitingo has shared the stage with Mojo Project and Alicia Keys, among others.
Nowadays Pitingo has been able to fuse flamenco and soul without losing their roots. In his concerts, Juan Habichuela, Juan Carmona and two members of Mojo Project manage to give us their very best.
Soleares, granaínas, seguirillas, fandangos, malagueñas, bulerías and SOULERIAS. The best of soul and flamenco with a special flavor.
Pitingo signed with Universal Music in 2005, the date which saw the release of his first album: “Pitingo con Habichuelas”. A record with an unmistakable personality on which he is accompanied by guitar maestros of the likes of Juan and Pepe Habichuela and the brilliant Juan Carmona and Antonio Carmona, ex-members of the group Ketama.
Despite being 25 years old, Pitingo has already worked with many figures of the artform, and has been to the world’s best theaters and festivals, racking up triumphs.
He was a big hit in Chicago, where he shared the bill with Paco de Lucía, Enrique Morente, Diego Amador and was accompanied by guitarist Gerardo Nuñez. He also did so in Beijing with the great bailaora Belén Maya, in Algeria with one of the best accompanying guitarists for cante, El Mami, in Germany with the Cervantes Institute, accompanied by a contemporary classical music orchestra conducted by Mauricio Sotelo.
He has taken part in three editions of the festival organized by Goma Espuma, Flamenco Pa Tos, at the Sabatini Gardens Flamenco Festival, accompanied by Juan Habichuela, Juan Carmona and two members of Mojo Project. At the 1st Torrelodones Festival, sharing the lineup with Tomatito. At Seville’s La Maestranza on Andalusia Day, representing his native land, Huelva. At Seville’s Bienal with maestro Pepe Habichuela and his son José Miguel Carmona, ex-member of Ketama.
