Eva Yerbabuena triumphs at Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Japan
Organized by Flamenco Festival and sponsored by Seville’s Flamenco Biennial, the Eva Yerbabuena Flamenco Ballet presented its shows ¨Yerbabuena¨ and ¨Santo y Seña¨ on October 20th and 21st.
The nearly 1500 spectators who filled BUNKAMURA ORCHARD HALL, one of the capital’s leading theaters, surrendered before the Spanish bailaora’s choreographies.
Eva is more impressed by "the very intense silence than the applause" from the audience in Japan, where flamenco was in its day "a revolution and it is now consolidated".
¨I was moved by the way of applauding, with such intensity and such respect. And even more so the silence at a moment in the show nearly at the end, which was very intense and was felt from the stage", remarks the bailaora, who believes flamenco shares certain features with traditional Japanese Kabuki theater.
The show 'Yerbabuena' is a simplified version of 'Santo y Seña', in which Eva conquers the stage alone for an hour and a half in a choreography "in which the music is very present". 'Santo y Seña', in which Eva Yerbabuena’s flamenco ballet tries to "summarize the company’s ten years". |
