Flamenco Festival celebrates 20 years en New York
Under the claim “Breaking walls, uniting worlds”, between March 13 and April 6, the Festival will display its monumental program, the largest flamenco event presented outside Spain, in 20 spaces of the New York City, then reach another 8 cities in North America with a total of 83 functions by 29 companies in 31 different spaces. In this 20th edition, we are honored to celebrate with artists from different generations for whom freedom is the real engine of creation, artists that open roads and rewrite the languages of flamenco dance such as María Pagés, Israel Galván, Rocío Molina, Manuel Liñán, Mercedes Ruiz, Eduardo Guerrero, María Moreno, La Chana, Patricia Guerrero, Sara Cano, Leonor Leal or the Siudy Flamenco Dance Theater.
From tradition to innovation, from classical sound to the redefinition of the flamenco beat by artists such as Miguel Poveda, Niño de Elche, Rocío Márquez, Marco Mezquida & Chicuelo, Aurora, Kiki Morente, José del Tomate, Rancapino Chico, Dani From Morón + Yotam Silberstein, Rosario La Tremendita, Antonio Lizana, Maui, Newbojaira + Randy Brecker, Los Voluble or Santiago Lara.
After 20 years of work, Flamenco Festival is part of the usual programming of important world stages and is an international launching platform for its artists. In this sense, Flamenco Festival is consolidated as an open window to the best of the current Flamenco expression, which is nourished by the more traditional baggage but also, which from that same origin reinvents, recreates, removes and twists, which applies the most absolute freedom as an engine of creation, offering a plural and diverse artistic horizon.
Flamenco Festival provides artists with a space to openly manifest themselves, without censorship or limits, without labels or clichés, with honesty and truth. At the same time it proposes a new point of view to the viewer, appealing to a curious attitude and open to evolution, receptive to the transformation and eager for new sensations.
Since its first edition in 2001, Flamenco Festival has offered 696 performances and presented 137 companies in 90 spaces around the world, hand in hand with all the great flamenco names of the last 20 years: figures at the top of their careers such as Sara Baras, Miguel Poveda, Vicente Amigo, Eva Yerbabuena, Estrella Morente, Carmen Linares, Tomatito, María Pagés, Manuela Carrasco, Israel Galván, Gerardo Núñez, Carmen Cortés, Rocío Molina, Olga Pericet, Rocío Márquez, Rosalia or Rafaela Carrasco, and also geniuses They are not among us, like Paco de Lucía or Enrique Morente.
