Flamenco Festival London 2024 brings a new look at the Spanish guitar and modern singing
“The voice that sings the present and the future of flamenco” – El País on Israel Fernández
In this nineteenth edition of Flamenco Festival London, there will also be space dedicated to the Spanish guitar with one of the most recognized guitarists of his generation. Winner of two Latin Grammys, Vicente Amigo will perform for the British audience on June 5th with a repertoire that will review his latest recordings, also leaving room for surprises. A concert full of nuances and emotions in which the Sevillian artist will interpret songs that are already part of flamenco and guitar history. He will be accompanied by the singer Rafael de Utrera, the guitarist Antonio Fernández 'Añil', the percussionist Francisco González Agudo, the bassist Ewen Vernal, and the dancer Dani Navarro.
Also, on guitar, Diego del Morao, representative of one of the great flamenco dynasties, will display his distinctive and unique personality alongside his inseparable Israel Fernández. Charisma, talent, and freshness define this flamenco duo, which, on June 9th, will stage 'Pura Sangre', the most personal work of the young singer, in which he shows his most intimate vision of flamenco culture and how it affects his relation to the world.
Israel Fernández leads a new generation of singing, but his is not orthodox flamenco... The artist from Toledo is one of the great renovators of singing, bringing young energy to the deepest roots of flamenco to take this art into unexplored territories. Precisely, this is an aspect that he shares with María José Llergo, another of the great contemporary voices of flamenco. The voice and ‘cante’ of the Cordovan is free from constraints and enriches her flamenco instinct with other sounds, bringing this art closer to younger generations.
