Julio Ruiz was born in Almería in 1993. He studied flamenco dance at the Kina Jiménez Professional Dance Conservatory and Spanish dance at the Andalusian Dance Center. He trained with artists such as Antonio Canales, Daniel Doña, Eva Yerbabuena, Rubén Olmo, Manolete, Farruquito, Manuel Liñán, Olga Pericet, Marco Flores, Pastora Galván… At the age of 19 he won the V Contest of Andalusian Young Flamencos Desencaja 2014 and the first prize of the II Contest of Young Flamencos 2016. He has subsequently received other important awards, such as the award for outstanding dancer at the 26th Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Contest in Madrid, in 2017 and the ¡Explosivo! and the Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa Award, both within the 2022 Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Contest. He has toured nationally and internationally (USA, Brazil, Hungary, etc.) as a solo dancer and has participated in festivals such as Jerez and Seville’s Bienal de Flamenco. He was part of the cast of the company La Fura dels Baus in El amor brujo, and despite his youth he has already premiered several shows: Scraps (2014) Site where I spoke to you (2017) 1993, y Bula (2020).
