After decades of hiding feminine impulses, a renowned dancer comes out to challenge convention by pursuing his love of flamenco – dressed as a woman – in a conservative society with rigid cultural traditions.
Released by The New Yorker in celebration of Pride Month 2021, Flamenco Queer is a revelatory short documentary in which Manuel Liñán shares his moving personal story of secrecy, struggle and eventual triumph.
Filmmakers Ana González and Frederick Bernas were given unfettered access to both Liñán’s family and his controversial ¡VIVA! project.
The film screening will be followed by a short Q&A with the film directors and chaired by Flamenco Festival producer Miguel Marin
